About the Book:
WAQI'AT-I-KASHMIR,
originally in Persian, by the famous historian Khwaja Muhammad
Azam Dedmari (d. 1765 AD), is one of the few famous and
important works covering several thousand years of Kashmirs
political and social history, with main reference to the
Muslim kings (Sultans), sages, scholars an poets of the soil.
Its manuscript copies are found almost in all prestigious
libraries and manuscript collections of the world. No
historian, researcher or writer on Kashmir can afford to miss
this work.
WAQI'AT-I-KASHMIRs Urdu translation was long over-due. This
task has been finally accomplished by Prof. Dr Shams-ud-din
Ahmad, former head of the Department of Persian in the
University of Kashmir. He has added many important explanatory
notes from other historical sources, adding significantly to
the importance and the utility of the current book.
Abdur Rahman Kondoos scholarly, elaborate and
thought-provoking introduction to the translation serves as a
feast to the searching mind and soul.
This Urdu may rightly be regarded as the best reference book
on Kashmir in print today.
The Jammu & Kashmir Islamic Research Centre, Srinagar, has
undertaken the publication of this voluminous book, with the
hope that it will greatly benefit seekers of knowledge.
